Parnitha is a mountain at the northwest end of the Attiki county, Greece, near the Greek capital, Athens.
There is a National Park and the better season to visit it is on Spring or maybe early Winter and Fall
We had our short walk on June 2012 and this was a very hot day! So it was impossimple for us to see all through the ground up to the Saronikos sea... but it was a nice expirience and we were pleased to be together and with Alexia's parents who helped us to move and acquaint the places...
Children had prepaired a short essay about the mountain and Alexia's mother, Maria, helped them to translate into english and they presented it at the videos I took

here is the essay:
"The natural recources of Mountain Parnitha are invaluable.
The fauna of the area includes many species which are safe-guarded by the authorities. The forests of the mountain are the only territory in southern Greece where a rare species of deer, the Carvus Elaphus, has its natural habitat and whose huntinh is forbidden all year round. In the heart of the national park, there is a breeding farm whose purpose is to help the national expansion of the fauna.
The rich fauna includes 29 spieces of mammals. The area has been designated as a Bird Sanctuary. There are about 120 spieces of birds living whithin.
The fiora of the area is one of the widest in Greece, with 818 spieces being recorded as either endemic or endangered. The lower parts of the area constitude the zone where the Aleppo Pine and evergreen shrubs, which are characteristic of the typical Mediterranean vegetation, aare found. In wetter and more fertile places we come across Plane trees, Mastic trees, Myrtles, Laurel trees, Oleanders and a great number of mossy plants.
The Mount Parnitha is the ideal place for trekking. There are a few trekking paths and visitors can find accommodation in shelters like "bafi", "Flambouri" etc.
Last but not least, the significance of the area lies in the fact that Mount Parnitha is close to Athens, the capital of Greece. "

for more details and informations you can visit the official site of Parnitha's National Park
